Home Tips | How To Prep Your Home For A Hard Freeze

  • Is your home ready to take on the frosty temps? Here’s how you can keep everything cozy, safe, and running smoothly:

    ✅ Insulate your pipes – Wrap exposed pipes with foam insulation or heat tape to prevent freezing and bursting. Cover outdoor faucets with insulated caps!

    ✅Seal up windows and doors – Use weatherstripping or caulk to seal any gaps and stop that cold air from sneaking in.

    ✅ Check your heating system – Test your furnace or heating unit to make sure it’s working efficiently. Change out dirty air filters and schedule a maintenance check if needed. Don’t forget to stock up on fuel if you use a fireplace or portable heaters!

    ✅ Drip faucets & open cabinets – Keep a trickle of water flowing from faucets, especially those on exterior walls, to prevent pipes from freezing. Open your cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.

    ✅ Look out for others – Check on your neighbors, especially seniors or those who might need extra help. And please don’t forget about pets—bring them indoors and make sure they have a warm spot to stay cozy.

  • Tax season is here, and homeowners have several opportunities to save! Here are seven must-know deductions that could reduce your tax bill:

    1. Mortgage Interest
    Deduct the interest you’ve paid on your mortgage (up to $750,000 for homes purchased after 2017). This applies to your primary residence and possibly a second home.

    2. Property Taxes
    You can deduct up to $10,000 of state and local property taxes if married and filing jointly, and $5,000 if you are single or married filing separately. Keep this cap in mind when filing!

    3. Home Office Expenses
    If you work from home and have a dedicated office space, you can deduct a portion of your utilities, internet, and even mortgage interest based on your workspace size.

    4. Energy-Efficient Upgrades
    Improvements like solar panels, energy-efficient doors, and windows may qualify for a federal tax credit. Save money while helping the planet!

    5. Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI)
    If you pay PMI on your loan, those premiums may be deductible. Remember, this is subject to income limits.

    6. Medical Home Improvements
